The Journey Behind the Journey

Ill-prepared by veterinary school for business and dealing with the public, Arvett’s decades-long encounters with animals and their people taught him unwanted lessons and revealed to him unwanted knowledge. And as his sister told him, some of the easiest lessons were the most profound. His writing has become an outlet for his thoughts on this unwanted largesse. Through it all, his seduction by the music of the ‘20s+ mitigated the normal, to-be-expected pain of existence. Many times he has dared himself to not cheer up when listening to certain cherished tunes. The music still defeats his occasional bouts of melancholy.

Since discovering Hot Jazz and Ragtime music in the 1970s, Arvett has remained deeply inspired by their rich history and enduring spirit. The music, culture, and community surrounding these genres continue to influence both his life and his writing.

Arvett, a naturalized Californian, writes in the company of the oddest dog he has ever had. She is friendly and companionable but keeps him guessing. Through Sublime Cacophony and the Sacramento Trilogy, he invites readers into a world where chance encounters and shared passions can change lives forever.

What Sets Him Apart

A Jaundiced but not Unromantic View of Life, Music and Story

Rich Life Experience

From working in various professions to interacting with people from all walks of life, Arvett draws on real-world experiences to create believable characters and meaningful stories.

Deep Musical Influence

His lifelong love of Hot Jazz and Ragtime influences the atmosphere, themes, and emotional depth of his work, creating a unique reading experience for audiences.

Character-Driven Narratives

Arvett's novels explore relationships, personal growth, and unexpected encounters, inviting readers to connect with characters whose journeys feel genuine and memorable.

The Author’s Mission

Once it’s typed out you know what you think. You can’t deny it.

This author has no idea why he writes. Professor Shelly Lowenkopf, many decades ago, assured him that if he was a writer, he would write. Arvett loves the piece called Why We Write – by Bill Lawrence who said he wrote to get laid, to find love, to get money, for revenge, out of arrogance, insecurity, to get paid for being full of shit . . . That’s not enough?
